MOGS to Battle China for RMT Market Dominance

Massive Online Gaming Sales LLC (more commonly known as MOGS) is undertaking a feat not accomplished by any American company before them; successfully competing with the Chinese giants of Real-Money Trading (RMT) for WoW Gold.

RMT emerged around 5 years ago and is described to gaming outsiders as “the sale of virtual gaming currencies, items and services”. The RMT industry broke into mainstream media through World of Warcraft, as hundreds of thousands of Chinese workers dedicated their time to “farming” Gold (the game’s currency). These hordes of low-waged workers have formed the supply basis for the entire industry, with little of the available stock of Gold coming from outside China. This provides a distinct advantage to Chinese companies within the industry, and has lead to the industry being dominated by Chinese outfits such as IGE, THSale and WoWMine. In contrast, companies outside the South-East Asian region must pay a premium for Chinese Gold or work hard to find Western suppliers of the precious virtual currency. Though these companies provide much better service quality to customers, the industry is notoriously price sensitive and low prices often drive orders to China.

MOGS is hoping to shift this trend by offering prices competitive to those found in China whilst not compromising on the high service quality that has allowed them to become America’s most respected RMT company. The company has re-branded their communications, re-designed their web site and brought in skilled industry veterans to help with this mammoth task.

Whilst WoW Gold makes up 80% of industry sales, MOGS will still maintain its efforts with FFXI Gil and EVE ISK, two games which MOGS traditionally enjoys great success. “We’re committed to growing and making moves on our Chinese competitors”, states Hayden Gill (MOGS CEO), “but we’ve no intention to alienate our existing customer base. Our success will come through extending our ethos of customer orientation, not emulating the tactics of those overseas”.

The success of this American company is in the hands of the MMORPG gamers of the Western hemisphere. Will they soon value superior service over lower prices? We shall wait and see.
